Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power to both the charger and any external load control modules before working on communication wiring.
- Check communication cable: Inspect the twisted pair cable between the charger and the home energy meter or load controller. Ensure A/B (or +/–) are correctly matched and firmly connected.
- Verify termination: Confirm that termination resistors are installed as required at the ends of the RS‑485 bus.
- Confirm settings: In the Volvo charger configuration, verify Modbus address, baud rate, parity, and protocol match the external meter’s settings.
- Test without load control: Temporarily disable dynamic load management in the charger settings. If charging works normally, the issue is isolated to the load control link.
If E16 continues with correct wiring and settings, the external meter or the charger’s communication interface may be defective. Replacement or professional diagnostics may be required.
