Possible Causes
Main contactor not opening before connector removal, Welded or slow‑acting contactor, Faulty control logic on Volvo charger main board, Damaged vehicle inlet causing delayed pilot signal change
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Stop using the charger immediately. Turn OFF the breaker and do not reconnect until the issue is resolved.
- Inspect connector: Check the Type 2 plug for burn marks or melted plastic. Replace if damaged.
- Listen to contactor: With power ON (but not plugging in), start and stop a charge session via the app while listening for clear contactor clicks. Erratic or delayed sounds suggest a problem.
- Professional inspection: Because arcing indicates live disconnection, have a qualified EVSE technician test the contactor and control board timing and replace faulty components.
Do not attempt to bypass safety interlocks or continue using a charger that arcs on connection/disconnection.
