Possible Causes

Missing or loose earth conductor at terminal block, High resistance earth connection, Corroded earth lug, Faulty PE monitoring circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: A missing earth is dangerous. Do not use the charger until the earth fault is corrected. Only a qualified electrician should work on the PE connection.

  • Visual inspection: With power off, open the Wallbox and verify that the green/yellow earth conductor is securely connected to the PE terminal and any internal earth bar.
  • Check upstream earth: Inspect the distribution board to ensure the earth conductor is properly terminated and not broken.
  • Measure earth continuity: An electrician should measure resistance between the Wallbox PE terminal and the main earth bar. High resistance indicates a poor connection that must be corrected.
  • Inspect for corrosion: If the Wallbox is installed outdoors, check for corrosion on the earth terminal and clean or replace as needed.
  • PE monitoring circuit: If the physical earth is good but Error 17 persists, the PE monitoring circuit on the main board may be faulty and require board replacement.

Never bypass the earth connection. The charger must be properly earthed to operate safely.
