Possible Causes
Welded contactor contacts, Failed contactor coil, Loose control wiring to contactor, Defective driver circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: The main contactor switches high current. Only trained personnel should open the charger and work near it.
- Listen during start: When plugging in, you should normally hear a solid ‘clack’ from the internal contactor. No sound or rapid chattering suggests a fault.
- Power cycle: Turn off the breaker for 2 minutes, then restore power and retry. Transient faults may clear.
- Check load history: If the charger has frequently run at maximum current in hot conditions, the contactor may be worn or welded.
- Professional inspection: A technician should open the Webasto unit, inspect the contactor for discoloration or pitting, and verify coil voltage from the control board.
- Replace if faulty: Do not attempt to file or clean welded contacts. Replace the contactor with the exact Webasto-specified part.
