Possible Causes
Damaged Type 2 cable, Contaminated or bent pins in Type 2 socket, Faulty pilot signal circuit on main control board, Defective proximity switch in connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the circuit breaker feeding the Zaptec charger before touching the connector or opening any covers. Never work on live EVSE wiring.
Step-by-step checks:
- Inspect the Type 2 plug and socket: Disconnect the cable from the car and charger. Check for bent, recessed, or burned pins, melted plastic, or corrosion. Clean light oxidation with a dry, soft brush only. Do not use liquids.
- Try a different cable: If you have a second Type 2 cable, test with it. If E01 disappears, the original cable is likely faulty and should be replaced.
- Check for mechanical latch issues: Ensure the connector fully seats and the latch clicks. Misalignment can prevent the proximity switch from closing.
- Power-cycle the charger: Turn the breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then ON. Wait for the charger to boot and reconnect to the app, then retry charging.
- If the error persists: The pilot/proximity circuit on the main control board may be defective. Do not open the sealed electronics compartment unless you are a qualified technician. Contact service with the error code and serial number.
