Possible Causes
Built-in RCD module tripped, Insulation fault in vehicle or cable, Moisture ingress in Type 2 socket, Faulty earth leakage sensor on main board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset an RCD that trips immediately. There may be a real earth fault. If you smell burning or see smoke, keep power off and call a professional.
Steps:
- Disconnect the vehicle: Unplug the cable from the car and charger.
- Check the upstream RCD/breaker: At your distribution board, reset the RCD/MCB feeding the Zaptec charger if it has tripped. If it trips again instantly, stop and call an electrician.
- Inspect for moisture: Look inside the Type 2 socket for water, condensation, or dirt. If damp, leave the cover open (if present) and allow to dry for several hours in a dry environment. Do not use heat guns.
- Try another vehicle or cable: If possible, test with a different EV and/or cable. If E02 only occurs with one car or cable, that item is likely at fault.
- Persistent E02 with all vehicles: The internal RCD module or earth leakage sensor on the Zaptec control board may be defective. This is not user-serviceable; arrange professional service or replacement of the RCD module.
