Possible Causes

Defective ambient NTC sensor, Sensor wiring open or shorted, Connector corrosion at control board, Main PCB sensor input failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect mains power before accessing control compartments or wiring.

How to proceed:

  • 1. Identify sensor location: On many AEG freezers, the ambient sensor is located near the top front or rear of the cabinet, often behind a small grille or within the control housing.
  • 2. Remove control cover: Carefully unclip or unscrew the control fascia or top cover to access the sensor and wiring.
  • 3. Inspect sensor and harness: Look for discoloration, cracks in the sensor body, or damaged insulation on the wires. Ensure the sensor is not dangling loose.
  • 4. Measure resistance: With the freezer unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare to AEG specifications or typical NTC values. Replace if open, shorted, or clearly out of range.
  • 5. Check continuity to PCB: Verify that both sensor wires have continuity from the sensor plug to the main PCB connector. Repair any breaks or high-resistance joints.
  • 6. Replace sensor: Install a new AEG ambient temperature sensor, routing the cable away from hot components and sharp edges.

When to seek help: If the sensor and wiring are confirmed good but E3 remains, the control board's sensor input circuit may be faulty and require professional replacement.
