Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before accessing the fan. Fan blades and metal edges can be sharp.
Procedure:
- 1. Confirm fan operation: With the door closed switch held in (if present) and the unit powered, you should normally hear the fan running. If silent, unplug and proceed.
- 2. Access fan assembly: Remove freezer drawers and the rear internal panel to expose the evaporator and fan shroud.
- 3. Check for ice build-up: Inspect around the fan blades. If encased in ice, defrost the area fully using warm air (hair dryer on low) and towels. Do not chip ice with tools.
- 4. Spin test: Gently rotate the fan by hand. It should spin freely without grinding. If stiff or seized, the motor is likely faulty.
- 5. Electrical test: Disconnect the fan plug and measure motor resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. Also check for supply voltage at the connector when the unit should be running (this step requires live testing and should be done only by trained persons).
- 6. Inspect wiring: Trace the harness from the fan to the cabinet pass-through and PCB. Repair any damaged insulation or loose connectors.
- 7. Replace fan motor: Install a genuine AEG evaporator fan motor, transfer the fan blade if separate, and ensure correct airflow direction.
Note: If the fan motor is good but never receives power, the main control board or door switch circuit may be defective and require professional diagnosis.
