Possible Causes
Misaligned door, Damaged or hardened door gasket, Faulty door switch or reed sensor, Weak or missing door magnet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Basic checks can be done with power on; unplug before electrical testing.
Steps:
- 1. Check alignment: Ensure the door is level and not sagging. Adjust hinges if the door rubs or does not close squarely.
- 2. Inspect gasket: Look for gaps, tears, or hardened sections of the gasket. Close the door on a strip of paper at several points; if it pulls out easily, the seal is weak.
- 3. Clean gasket: Wipe the gasket and mating surface with warm soapy water to remove grease and debris.
- 4. Test door switch: For mechanical switches, press and release to see if the interior light responds. For magnetic reed switches, use a magnet to test operation. Replace if faulty.
- 5. Check magnet: Ensure the door magnet (if used) is present and firmly seated in the door frame.
