Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before testing defrost components.
Understanding dF: On some Amana models, dF simply indicates the unit is in a defrost cycle. This is normal and should clear within 20–40 minutes.
If dF persists for hours:
- Power reset: Unplug the freezer for 5 minutes, then plug back in. If dF returns and cooling does not resume, proceed.
- Check defrost thermostat and heater: Access the evaporator, test the defrost thermostat for continuity when cold, and test the heater for resistance. Replace any open components.
- Sensor check: Verify the evaporator thermistor is properly attached and reading correctly.
- Control board: If all components test good, the control may be stuck in defrost and require replacement.
Note: Some models allow manual exit from defrost via a button sequence; refer to the tech sheet if available.
