Possible Causes
Failed door switch, Misaligned door or gasket preventing switch activation, Broken door switch wiring, Faulty control board door input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before removing the door switch.
Steps:
- Locate the door switch: Typically mounted in the liner near the top of the door opening.
- Check door alignment: Ensure the door closes fully and the gasket makes uniform contact. Adjust leveling legs so the door self-closes and is not sagging.
- Test the switch: Gently pry the switch out, disconnect the wires, and test continuity with a multimeter. The switch should change from open to closed when pressed.
- Inspect wiring: Look for broken or corroded wires at the switch connector. Repair as needed.
- Replace the switch: If the switch does not operate correctly, install a new OEM Amana door switch.
- Control board: If the switch and wiring are good but E8 persists, the control board may be misreading the door input and should be replaced.
Note: A faulty door switch can also keep the interior light on, warming the freezer.
