Possible Causes

Stuck or shorted thermistor reading too warm, Control board not cycling compressor off, Temperature set too low, Failed control relay welded closed

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing controls or sensors.

Steps:

  • Check temperature setting: Ensure the setpoint is not at the coldest setting. Adjust to a mid-range setting and monitor for 24 hours.
  • Inspect thermistor: Test the cabinet thermistor for proper resistance at known temperatures. Replace if out of specification.
  • Observe compressor operation: If the compressor runs nearly constantly even after adjusting the setpoint, the control board may not be cycling it off.
  • Control board replacement: If the thermistor is good and the compressor never shuts off, replace the main control board, as the compressor relay may be stuck closed.

Note: Overcooling can increase energy use and cause excessive frost; correct promptly.
