Possible Causes
Failed mechanical door switch, Faulty magnetic reed sensor in cabinet, Broken door switch wiring, Misaligned door magnet on the freezer door
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before testing the door switch wiring.
Steps:
- 1. Check light and alarm behavior: Open and close the door. If the interior light does not change state or the alarm does not respond, suspect the door switch.
- 2. Locate the door switch: On many Amica freezers it is a small plunger switch in the door frame or a hidden magnetic sensor behind the liner.
- 3. Mechanical switch test: Press the plunger by hand. If it feels loose or sticks, it may be faulty. With the unit unplugged, remove the switch and test continuity with a multimeter while pressing and releasing.
- 4. Magnetic sensor check: If your model uses a magnetic reed switch, ensure the door magnet (often in the gasket or door frame) is present and aligned. A missing or displaced magnet will cause E13.
- 5. Replace faulty parts: Install a new "Amica Door Switch" or "Door Reed Sensor" as appropriate. Reconnect wiring securely and refit trim.
Tip: A faulty door switch can also stop the evaporator fan on some models, affecting cooling.
