Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice buildup blocking fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver circuit on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the appliance before accessing the fan area. Moving fan blades can cause injury.

Steps:

  • 1. Listen for fan operation: With the door closed and compressor running (before unplugging), you should normally hear a gentle fan noise. If silent or grinding, suspect the fan.
  • 2. Access the fan: Remove the internal rear panel of the freezer to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
  • 3. Check for ice obstruction: If the fan is encased in ice, fully defrost the unit for 12–24 hours. After defrosting, spin the fan blades by hand to ensure they move freely.
  • 4. Electrical test: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the fan motor and measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
  • 5. Replace fan motor: If faulty, install a new "Amica Evaporator Fan Motor". Transfer the fan blade to the new motor if required, secure the motor, and reconnect wiring.
  • 6. Control board check: If the fan motor tests good but never receives voltage when the compressor is running, the main control board may have a failed fan driver and require replacement.

Tip: Ensure the door switch is functioning; some models stop the fan when the door is open.
