Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before removing interior panels or working with hot water for defrosting.
- Access evaporator and drain: Remove the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator and drain trough beneath it.
- Clear ice and debris: Use warm (not boiling) water to melt ice in the drain trough and outlet. A turkey baster or squeeze bottle works well. Do not use sharp tools.
- Check drain tube: From the rear, locate the drain tube leading to the drip pan. Ensure it is not kinked or blocked. Clean with a flexible brush if needed.
- Inspect defrost sensor placement: Ensure the sensor is correctly clipped to the evaporator so defrost cycles terminate properly.
After clearing the drain, reassemble and monitor for recurrence. Persistent AL17 may indicate a design issue or damaged drain components that require replacement.
