Possible Causes
Spilled liquids in insulation channels, Mold growth on gaskets and liners, Clogged or dirty drain pan, Poor air circulation during previous shutdown
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before deep cleaning. Use non-flammable cleaners only.
- Thorough cleaning: Remove all food and shelves. Wash interior surfaces with a solution of baking soda and warm water. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
- Clean gasket folds: Use a soft brush and mild detergent to clean between gasket folds where mold can grow.
- Clean drain pan: Access the rear and remove the drain pan if possible. Wash and dry it to remove stagnant water and residue.
- Air out the cabinet: Leave the door open for several hours with the unit unplugged to allow odors to dissipate.
For severe odors that persist, insulation may be contaminated and professional service or replacement may be required.
