Possible Causes

Loose wiring harness to temperature sensor, Failed cabinet temperature sensor (NTC thermistor), Faulty main control board, Corroded sensor connector at control panel

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer before removing any panels. Use a non-contact voltage tester if available.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Power cycle the unit: Unplug the freezer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in. If E0 clears and does not return, it may have been a transient communication glitch.
  • Inspect the sensor wiring: Remove the control panel cover (usually at the front top or inside the cabinet on Avanti uprights). Locate the temperature sensor harness (two small-gauge wires leading into the liner). Check for loose plugs, corrosion, or damaged insulation. Reseat all connectors firmly.
  • Check sensor resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the board. Measure resistance across the sensor leads with a multimeter. At room temperature (around 77°F / 25°C), most Avanti NTC sensors read roughly 5k–10k ohms. If the reading is open (OL) or near 0 ohms, the sensor is defective.
  • Inspect the control board: Look for burnt spots, swollen capacitors, or corrosion on the main control board. If the sensor tests good but E0 persists, the board may be faulty.
  • Replace parts as needed: If the sensor is out of spec, replace the cabinet temperature sensor (NTC). If wiring and sensor are good, replace the main control board.

When to call a technician: If you are not comfortable using a multimeter or accessing the control board, or if the board needs replacement and wiring modifications, contact a qualified appliance technician.
