Possible Causes
Door left open or gasket leaking, Blocked air vents inside freezer, Failed condenser fan motor on frost-free models, Low refrigerant charge or sealed system leak
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: This error indicates unsafe food temperatures. Check food condition and discard anything that has thawed and refrozen or smells off.
Steps:
- Check door and gasket: Ensure the door closes fully and the gasket seals all around. Look for gaps, tears, or hardened sections. Clean the gasket with warm soapy water and dry. Adjust door hinges if misaligned.
- Inspect interior airflow: Make sure food items are not blocking air vents on the back or sides of the cabinet. Leave space for air circulation.
- Verify ambient conditions: Avanti freezers should be used within the specified room temperature range. Extremely hot rooms can cause high temperature alarms.
- Check condenser fan (if equipped): On frost-free upright models, remove the rear lower panel and confirm the condenser fan runs when the compressor is on. If the fan is not spinning, check for obstructions, then test the fan motor and replace if failed.
- Clean condenser coils: Dusty coils reduce cooling efficiency. Vacuum or brush the coils carefully with the unit unplugged.
- Monitor temperature: After corrections, allow 12–24 hours for the freezer to pull down to set temperature. If E4 persists and the compressor runs constantly but the unit does not get cold, a sealed system issue (refrigerant leak or compressor problem) is likely and requires a professional technician.
