Possible Causes

Failed ambient (room) temperature sensor, Sensor wiring harness open or shorted, Sensor dislodged from proper mounting location, Faulty control board sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing sensors or control boards.

Steps:

  • Locate ambient sensor: On some Avanti models, an ambient sensor is mounted near the front grille or behind the control panel to monitor room temperature.
  • Inspect mounting: Ensure the sensor is not touching hot components or trapped inside insulation. It should be exposed to room air.
  • Check wiring: Follow the sensor leads back to the control board. Look for pinched, cut, or chewed wires (rodent damage). Repair or replace as needed.
  • Test sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to Avanti specifications for that sensor type (typically NTC). If reading is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the sensor.
  • Control board: If a known-good sensor still triggers E7, the control board input may be defective and the main control board should be replaced.
