Possible Causes
Thermostat stuck closed (mechanical models), Temperature sensor reading too warm, Control board relay stuck on, User setpoint accidentally set to lowest setting (e.g., fast freeze mode)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Extremely low temperatures can cause brittle plastic parts; handle shelves and bins carefully.
Steps:
- Check setpoint: Verify the temperature setting on the control panel or mechanical thermostat knob. Adjust to the recommended setting (typically around -0°F to -5°F / -18°C to -21°C).
- Disable fast freeze: If your Avanti model has a quick-freeze or turbo mode, turn it off and allow the unit to stabilize.
- Test thermostat (mechanical models): Turn the thermostat knob from coldest to warmest and listen for a click. If the compressor never shuts off, the thermostat may be stuck closed and should be replaced.
- Sensor models: If digital, test the cabinet sensor as described in other entries. A sensor reading too warm will cause the control to overcool.
- Control board: If the compressor runs continuously even when the control calls for off, the compressor relay on the board may be welded closed. Replace the main control board.
