Freezer makes loud buzzing or humming noise from compressor area, sometimes followed by a click; unit may not cool.

Safety: Unplug the freezer and allow the compressor to cool before touching. Use insulated tools.

Steps:

• Check ventilation: Ensure the rear of the freezer is not blocked and that the compressor area is not excessively hot.
• Inspect start device: Remove the start relay/overload from the compressor and inspect for burn marks or melted plastic. Replace with the correct Avanti assembly if damaged.
• Test compressor: Measure winding resistances and check for shorts to ground. If readings are abnormal, the compressor is likely failing.
• Monitor operation: After installing a new start device, plug in and observe. If the compressor still buzzes and trips, shut off power and call a professional; the compressor may be locked.
