Possible Causes
Defective evaporator NTC sensor, Moisture ingress into sensor capsule, Broken wiring between evaporator NTC and control board, Faulty main control board sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing the evaporator area. Sharp metal edges and ice can cause injury.
- Access the evaporator: Remove drawers and the rear inner panel of the freezer compartment to expose the evaporator coil and fan assembly.
- Locate the evaporator NTC: It is usually clipped to the evaporator tubing or mounted in a small plastic holder on the coil.
- Check for ice and moisture: Heavy ice buildup or water around the sensor can cause false readings. Carefully defrost the area using warm air (hair dryer on low, kept at a safe distance). Do not chip ice with sharp tools.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the harness. Look for brittle insulation, cuts, or loose connectors. Reseat any plug connections.
- Measure resistance: At room temperature, measure the NTC resistance. Compare to the freezer NTC spec (often similar to the compartment sensor). If the reading is open or shorted, replace the evaporator NTC.
- Reassemble and test: After replacing the sensor, reassemble the evaporator cover, restore power, and monitor if F2 clears and normal cooling resumes.
- If error persists: The main PCB may not be reading the sensor correctly. Board replacement is recommended via an authorized Bauknecht service center.
