Possible Causes
Failed evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor harness inside insulation, Faulty main control PCB sensor channel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Always unplug the freezer before removing covers or working near wiring and metal edges.
Diagnosis steps:
- 1. Confirm airflow and frost pattern: Remove the internal rear panel (evaporator cover). Check for even frost on the evaporator. A sensor that has fallen away may cause erratic defrosting.
- 2. Locate the evaporator NTC: It is usually clipped or strapped to the evaporator tubing or embedded in a small pocket on the evaporator plate. Ensure it is firmly attached and not hanging loose.
- 3. Visual inspection: Look for broken insulation on the sensor leads, corrosion at the connector, or signs of moisture ingress.
- 4. Electrical test: With the freezer unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the harness and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to expected NTC values (similar to cabinet sensor). If open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the sensor.
- 5. Harness and PCB check: If the sensor tests OK, check continuity of the harness from the sensor to the main control PCB. If continuity is good and E2 remains, the PCB input may be defective.
- 6. Replace components: Fit a new Belling evaporator NTC sensor if faulty. If the PCB is at fault, replace the main control PCB, transferring any configuration jumpers as per service documentation.
Note: Avoid bending or puncturing the evaporator tubing; this can cause an irreparable refrigerant leak.
