Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Critical safety: Mains voltage and compressor terminals are hazardous. Unplug the freezer before removing the rear service panel. If you are not experienced with electrical testing, contact a professional.
Steps:
- 1. Access compressor compartment: Remove the lower rear cover to expose the compressor, start device, and wiring.
- 2. Visual inspection: Look for burnt marks on the start relay/PTC module and overload protector. Check for melted connectors or a burnt smell.
- 3. Check connections: Ensure all spade connectors are firmly seated on the compressor terminals (C, S, R). Tighten any loose connections.
- 4. Test start device: Remove the start relay/PTC and shake gently; if it rattles excessively or shows signs of burning, replace it with a compatible Belling compressor start device.
- 5. Overload protector: Test for continuity when cool. If open and not resetting, replace the overload protector.
- 6. Compressor test: Measure resistance between compressor terminals. If windings are shorted to earth or readings are abnormal, the compressor is likely faulty and requires specialist replacement.
Warning: Do not bypass safety devices (overload or relay). This can cause fire or compressor damage.
