Possible Causes
Normal automatic defrost cycle, Control board not exiting defrost, Stuck defrost relay, Faulty defrost sensor feedback
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: If you need to access internal components, unplug the freezer first.
Checks:
- 1. Wait for cycle completion: Many Bomann freezers display dF during a scheduled defrost. This should clear within 20–40 minutes. Avoid opening the door frequently.
- 2. If dF persists for hours: Power-cycle the unit by unplugging for 10 minutes, then plugging back in. If it immediately returns to dF and cooling does not resume, there may be a control or sensor fault.
- 3. Inspect defrost components: Follow the same steps as for defrost sensor and heater faults (see E3/E4). Ensure the defrost sensor is providing correct feedback to the board.
- 4. Control board evaluation: If sensors and heater are normal but the board remains in defrost, the main control board may be defective and require replacement.
Note: A short, periodic dF indication is normal; only prolonged defrost with loss of cooling is a fault.
