Possible Causes

Defective evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty main control board sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Disconnect the freezer from power before removing any covers. Sharp metal edges around the evaporator can cause injury—wear cut-resistant gloves.

Diagnostic steps:

  • 1. Access the evaporator area: Empty the freezer section as needed. Remove the rear interior panel (evaporator cover) by undoing screws and gently prying it off. Do not force it if it is frozen in place—defrost first.
  • 2. Locate the evaporator NTC: The sensor is usually clipped to the evaporator tubing or embedded in a small plastic housing attached to the coil.
  • 3. Visual inspection: Check if the sensor has fallen off the coil or is hanging loose. Ensure it is firmly clipped in place and not covered in heavy ice. Inspect the cable for cuts or crushed sections.
  • 4. Electrical test: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the harness and measure resistance. Compare to expected NTC values (commonly several kΩ at room temperature). An open or shorted reading indicates a bad sensor.
  • 5. Harness and connector check: Follow the wiring from the sensor to the main control board. Check for broken insulation, loose plugs, or corrosion. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
  • 6. Replace sensor if needed: Install a new Bomann-compatible evaporator NTC sensor, routing the cable along the original path and securing it away from moving parts or sharp edges.
  • 7. Evaluate control board: If a known-good sensor and wiring still trigger E2, the main control board may be defective and require replacement.

Note: After replacement, reassemble the evaporator cover carefully to avoid air leaks that can cause frost build-up.
