Possible Causes

Failed ambient NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from its mounting near control panel, Damaged sensor wiring, Faulty main control board sensor channel

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer before removing the control panel or top cover. Avoid pulling on wires directly.

Steps:

  • 1. Locate ambient sensor: On many Bomann freezers, the ambient sensor is near the control panel or in the top/front area behind a small grille.
  • 2. Remove control panel cover: Carefully unclip or unscrew the panel to access the sensor and wiring. Take care not to crack plastic trims.
  • 3. Inspect sensor and wiring: Ensure the sensor is not hanging loose and that its leads are intact. Look for signs of moisture ingress or corrosion on the connector.
  • 4. Test sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to typical NTC values (several kΩ). Replace if open, shorted, or far out of range.
  • 5. Check harness to PCB: Verify continuity from the sensor connector to the main board. Repair any breaks or damaged insulation.
  • 6. Replace faulty parts: Fit a new Bomann-compatible ambient NTC sensor if needed. If sensor and wiring are good but E5 persists, the main control board may require replacement.

Tip: After reassembly, ensure the sensor is positioned where it can sense room air, not trapped behind insulation.
