Possible Causes
Stuck-closed mechanical thermostat (on basic models), Faulty temperature sensor reading too warm, Control board not cycling compressor off, Shorted thermostat wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing the thermostat or control panel.
Procedure:
- 1. Check setpoint: Ensure the temperature setting is not on maximum cold. Adjust to a mid-range setting and monitor for several hours.
- 2. Mechanical thermostat models: Locate the thermostat knob and housing inside the cabinet. Remove the cover and inspect for burnt contacts or broken capillary tube. If the compressor never stops regardless of knob position, replace the thermostat.
- 3. Electronic models: Test the cabinet NTC sensor as described for E1. A sensor reading too high will cause overcooling.
- 4. Control board: If sensors and thermostat are good but the compressor never cycles off, the main control board relay may be stuck closed and needs replacement.
