Possible Causes

Clogged defrost drain hole, Frozen drain tube, Debris or food particles in drain trough, Damaged drain heater (if fitted)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer before removing interior panels. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.

Steps:

  • 1. Remove interior rear panel: Access the evaporator and drain trough at the bottom.
  • 2. Clear ice and debris: Use warm (not boiling) water to melt ice in the drain trough and hole. Gently probe the drain with a flexible plastic tube or pipe cleaner to clear blockages.
  • 3. Flush the drain: Pour warm water down the drain until it flows freely into the drain pan above the compressor.
  • 4. Check drain heater (if present): Some Bomann models have a small heater near the drain. Inspect for damage and test continuity; replace if open.
  • 5. Reassemble and monitor: Dry the interior and reassemble panels. Check over the next days for recurrence of water pooling.
