Possible Causes

Defective evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor harness in evaporator compartment, Faulty main control module input circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Unplug the freezer before removing any interior panels. Evaporator fins are sharp; wear cut-resistant gloves.

Steps:

  • Access the evaporator: Remove freezer drawers and the inner rear panel to expose the evaporator coil. You may need to defrost ice buildup with a hair dryer on low (do not use open flame).
  • Locate the evaporator NTC: It is usually clipped to the evaporator tubing or embedded in a small plastic housing attached to the coil.
  • Check mounting: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the evaporator. A loose sensor can cause incorrect readings and trigger E02. Re-clip or secure it if it has fallen off.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires to the connector. Look for brittle insulation, corrosion, or broken conductors, especially where the harness passes through the cabinet.
  • Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to Bosch specifications for the given temperature. If the reading is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the sensor.
  • Replace sensor if needed: Install a Bosch-compatible evaporator NTC, clip it securely to the coil, and route the wiring as originally installed.
  • Control board check: If the sensor and wiring are good, the main control module may be defective. Replacement requires removing the control housing (often at the top front or rear) and swapping the board.

Note: After repair, allow 12–24 hours for the freezer to stabilize and confirm that E02 does not reappear.
