Freezer shows E06 and may not start cooling; compressor may not run.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Critical safety: Work on compressor and inverter circuits only with the appliance unplugged. High voltage is present when powered.
Steps:
- Listen for compressor: After plugging in, check if the compressor attempts to start (brief hum or click). If completely silent and E06 appears, suspect control or inverter.
- Inspect wiring: Unplug the unit. Access the rear lower compartment and remove the compressor cover. Check the harness from the main control board to the compressor or inverter module for loose plugs or damaged wires.
- Check inverter module (if fitted): Many Bosch freezers use an external inverter box mounted near the compressor. Inspect for burn marks or melted plastic. If visibly damaged, replacement is required.
- Compressor test (advanced): With power disconnected, measure resistance between compressor terminals. Values should be finite and not shorted to ground. If windings are open or shorted, the compressor is defective.
- Replace faulty component: If wiring is intact and compressor windings are good, replace the inverter module or main control board as indicated by diagnostics.
Important: Compressor or sealed system work (including refrigerant handling) must be performed by an F-gas certified refrigeration technician. Do not attempt sealed system repairs yourself.
