Possible Causes
Defective freezer temperature sensor (NTC probe), Shorted wiring harness to sensor, Faulty electronic control board, Incorrect thermostat calibration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal panels or wiring. Avoid pulling on sensor wires directly.
Steps to diagnose:
- Check temperature setting: Confirm the set temperature is appropriate (typically around -18°C). Reset to factory default and see if AL02 clears after a power cycle.
- Power reset: Unplug the freezer for 5 minutes, then plug back in. If AL02 returns quickly, proceed with sensor checks.
- Locate the freezer NTC sensor: On many Brandt freezers, the sensor is behind an interior panel near the evaporator or in a small plastic housing on the liner wall. Remove the cover carefully.
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Look for corrosion, moisture ingress, or damaged insulation on the sensor leads. Dry any condensation and reseat the connector firmly on the control board or junction block.
- Test the sensor (for qualified users with a multimeter): Disconnect the NTC sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare to Brandt specifications (commonly ~5–10 kΩ at 25°C, but check service data). If reading is open, shorted, or far off spec, replace the sensor.
- If sensor tests OK: The fault may be in the main control board. Inspect the board for burnt components or corrosion. If no visible damage but AL02 persists, replace the electronic control module.
