Possible Causes
Defective door switch or reed sensor, Misaligned door magnet, Broken or loose door switch wiring, Faulty main control board input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before working around the door switch or control wiring.
What to check:
- Confirm door closure: Ensure the door is fully closing and not obstructed by baskets, food packages, or warped gaskets.
- Inspect door gasket: Check for tears, deformation, or hardened sections that prevent full closure. Warm the gasket gently with a hair dryer and reshape if needed.
- Locate the door switch or sensor: On many Brandt freezers, the door switch is a plunger-type switch in the frame or a magnetic reed sensor hidden in the liner.
- Test the switch: With power off, remove the switch from the cabinet. Use a multimeter to check continuity while pressing and releasing the plunger. Replace the switch if it does not change state reliably.
- Check magnet alignment (for reed sensors): Ensure the magnet in the door aligns with the sensor area when closed. If the door is sagging, adjust the hinges or add shims to restore alignment.
- Inspect wiring: Look for pinched or broken wires near the hinge area. Repair or replace the harness if damaged.
- If switch and wiring are OK: The main control board input circuit may be faulty and require replacement.
