Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay or PTC, Open overload protector, Locked rotor in compressor, Low mains voltage or power surge damage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer. The compressor and start components can be very hot; allow them to cool before touching. Do not attempt to open the sealed compressor shell.
Diagnostic steps:
- Listen for clicking: When powered, a repeated click every few seconds from the compressor area indicates the overload is tripping.
- Access start components: Remove the rear lower cover. Carefully pull off the plastic cover on the compressor terminals to expose the start relay/PTC and overload protector.
- Inspect visually: Look for burn marks, melted plastic, or a rattling sound inside the PTC relay when shaken gently. Replace the start relay/overload assembly if damaged.
- Test compressor windings (advanced): With all wires removed and power off, measure resistance between the three compressor pins. You should see three low resistance values; none should be open or shorted to the compressor shell. If windings are open or shorted, the compressor is defective and requires professional replacement.
- Check supply voltage: Ensure the outlet provides stable voltage within the specified range. Avoid using long extension cords or multi-plugs.
- If new start components do not resolve AL05: The compressor itself is likely seized or the control board is not providing correct start signals. Contact an authorized technician for sealed system service.
