How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer from the mains before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.

This code usually indicates a problem with the main cabinet temperature sensor (NTC) used on many Bush upright and chest freezers.

  • Power reset: Unplug the freezer for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in. If E1 returns, continue.
  • Locate the cabinet sensor: On most Bush freezers it is clipped behind the inner liner near the evaporator or routed behind a small plastic cover inside the cabinet (often near the rear wall or side wall).
  • Inspect wiring: Remove the interior cover (if fitted) and visually check the thin sensor wires for cuts, pinches, or rodent damage. Ensure the plug is fully seated in the sensor socket or wiring block.
  • Check resistance (for advanced users): With the freezer unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the control board and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (around 20°C) most Bush NTC sensors read roughly 5–20 kΩ. An open circuit (OL) or 0 Ω indicates a failed sensor.
  • Replace the sensor: If readings are out of range or wiring is damaged, replace the cabinet NTC temperature sensor with a compatible Bush part. Route the new sensor along the original path and secure it away from moving parts or sharp edges.
  • Reconnect and test: Reconnect the sensor to the control board, reassemble covers, plug the freezer back in, and monitor if the E1 code clears and temperature stabilises.

If the sensor and wiring are good but E1 persists, the main control PCB may be faulty and should be diagnosed by a qualified technician.
