Possible Causes

Failed ambient NTC sensor near control panel, Damaged sensor wiring in door or front fascia, Loose connector on main control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the appliance before removing any control panel or fascia parts.

E5 is commonly associated with an ambient (room) temperature sensor fault on Bush freezers with electronic controls.

  • Locate the control panel: On upright models, this is usually on the front top edge or door; on chest freezers, it may be on the front panel.
  • Access the sensor: Remove the screws securing the control housing and gently pull it forward. Look for a small NTC sensor embedded in the housing or routed into the cabinet front.
  • Inspect wiring and connector: Check for pinched wires, corrosion, or a loose plug at the control board.
  • Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to expected NTC values or to another identical sensor if present. An open or shorted reading indicates failure.
  • Replace the ambient sensor: Fit a new ambient NTC temperature sensor compatible with your Bush model. Route the wiring as originally installed and secure it away from sharp edges.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit the control panel, restore power, and check if E5 disappears and temperature control stabilises.

If the sensor tests good, the main control PCB may be misreading it and could require replacement by a technician.
