Possible Causes
Spilled food or blood in crevices, Contaminated defrost drain and tray, Mould growth on door gasket
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer and remove all food before deep cleaning.
- Thorough cleaning: Wash all interior surfaces with a solution of warm water and bicarbonate of soda. Remove shelves, baskets, and any removable panels.
- Clean door gasket: Gently pull back the gasket folds and clean inside with mild detergent. Dry thoroughly to prevent mould.
- Flush defrost drain: Locate the interior drain hole (if fitted) and flush with warm water and a little disinfectant. Empty and clean the defrost drain tray above the compressor.
- Air out: Leave the door open for several hours with the freezer unplugged to allow odours to dissipate.
For severe contamination (e.g. after long power failure with spoiled food), replacement of some plastic parts or the door gasket may be necessary.
