Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay, Overheated or locked compressor, Blocked condenser airflow, Faulty main control board compressor drive
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing the rear compartment. Do not attempt sealed system repairs without proper certification.
- Check ventilation: Ensure there is adequate clearance around the freezer and that the rear grille and toe kick are not blocked by dust or objects.
- Clean condenser coils: Remove the rear lower access panel and gently clean the condenser coils with a coil brush and vacuum. Improved airflow can reduce compressor strain.
- Inspect condenser fan: With power restored, observe the condenser fan next to the compressor. It should run when the compressor runs. If not, unplug the unit and test the fan motor for free rotation and continuity. Replace if seized or open.
- Check compressor start components: With power off, remove the start relay/overload from the compressor terminals. Shake the relay gently; if it rattles or shows burn marks, replace it with a Café-compatible start device.
- Persistent CC: If the compressor hums and clicks off, or does not start even with a new relay, the compressor or control board may be faulty. This typically requires a professional sealed system technician.
