Possible Causes
Open or shorted wiring to evaporator fan module, Failed evaporator fan motor with integrated electronics, Corroded connectors at fan or control board, Defective main control board communication circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing interior panels or handling wiring.
- Access evaporator area: Remove freezer drawers and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
- Inspect wiring harness: Check the harness from the fan motor to the cabinet pass-through for damage, pinching, or ice intrusion. Reseat all connectors firmly.
- Check for ice buildup: Ice around the fan can stress the motor and wiring. Defrost the area completely using a hair dryer on low (do not overheat plastic) or by leaving the unit unplugged with doors open.
- Test fan motor: With the fan disconnected and power off, measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit or obvious burn marks indicate a failed motor. Replace the evaporator fan motor assembly if defective.
- Control board consideration: If wiring and fan are good, the main control board may not be communicating properly. Board replacement is usually required and may be best left to a technician.
