Possible Causes
Open or shorted defrost thermistor, Damaged sensor wiring, Poor sensor contact with evaporator tubing, Failed main control board sensor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before working inside the freezer compartment.
- Locate defrost thermistor: It is usually clipped to the evaporator tubing near the top or middle of the coil.
- Check mounting: Ensure the thermistor is firmly clipped to the tubing and not hanging loose. Poor contact can cause incorrect readings.
- Test resistance: Remove the thermistor connector and measure resistance at a known temperature. Compare to the Café thermistor chart if available. Replace if open, shorted, or far out of range.
- Inspect wiring and connectors: Look for corrosion or broken wires between the thermistor and the main control board. Repair as needed.
- Board diagnosis: If a new thermistor does not clear dS, the main control board may be defective and require replacement.
