• Verify actual temperature: Place an accurate thermometer in the freezer and compare the reading to the set temperature. This helps confirm a sensor issue versus a real cooling problem.
• Inspect sensor placement: Ensure the freezer thermistor is properly clipped to its mounting point and not dangling or buried in frost. Incorrect placement can cause false readings.
• Check for moisture intrusion: Look for water or ice around the thermistor connection that could cause shorts. Dry the area thoroughly and correct any air leaks that cause condensation.
• Test thermistor resistance: Remove the thermistor connector and measure resistance at a known temperature. Replace the thermistor if readings are unstable or far from spec.
• Control board check: If the thermistor and wiring are good, the main control board may be misinterpreting the signal. Board replacement is typically required in that case.
