Possible Causes
Dirty condenser coils, Weak or failing compressor, Low refrigerant charge (sealed system leak), Evaporator fan not moving enough air
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before cleaning coils or accessing rear components.
- Clean condenser coils: Locate the condenser coils (underneath or behind the unit). Use a coil brush and vacuum to remove dust and pet hair. Improved airflow can significantly improve cooling.
- Check door gasket: Inspect the gasket for gaps or tears that allow warm air in. Replace if damaged.
- Verify evaporator fan operation: Open the door and press the door switch to simulate a closed door. Listen for the evaporator fan. If it is noisy, slow, or not running, replace the evaporator fan motor.
- Inspect frost pattern: Remove the interior rear panel and look at the evaporator coil. A normal system has a light, even frost pattern. Heavy ice on only part of the coil or no frost at all suggests a sealed system issue that requires a certified technician.
