Possible Causes

Failed compressor start relay, Failed PTC starter, Open compressor winding, Main control board relay failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer from the mains before removing any panels or touching wiring. Use insulated tools and do not work on live circuits.

  • Check for basic operation: Confirm the freezer is plugged in, the outlet has power, and the power switch (if present) is ON.
  • Access the compressor area: Pull the Candy freezer away from the wall. Remove the lower rear service panel to expose the compressor and start device.
  • Inspect the start relay/PTC: On Candy freezers, the start relay and overload protector are clipped to the side of the compressor. Remove the plastic cover and gently pull off the relay/overload assembly. Look for burn marks, melted plastic, or rattling pieces inside the relay when shaken.
  • Test the compressor windings: With a multimeter set to ohms, measure resistance between the three compressor pins. You should see low but finite resistance between each pair and no continuity to ground. If windings are open or shorted to ground, the compressor is faulty.
  • Replace faulty start device: If the compressor tests good but the relay/PTC is burnt or open, replace it with a compatible Candy compressor start relay/overload kit. Refit the new part, reconnect wires as per original layout, and reinstall the cover.
  • Check control board relay: If the start device and compressor are good but the compressor never receives power, the main control board relay may be defective. Visual inspection may show burnt spots; replacement of the main PCB is usually required.
  • Restore power and test: Refit the rear panel, plug the freezer back in, and allow 10–15 minutes to see if the compressor starts and E01 clears.

Warning: If you are not comfortable testing live voltage or compressor windings, contact a qualified technician. Compressor replacement requires specialized tools and refrigerant handling certification.
