Possible Causes
Off-gassing from plastic liners and insulation, Residual manufacturing oils, Spilled food residues, Mold growth after being switched off closed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before cleaning. Ensure good ventilation in the room.
- Initial airing: For a new Candy freezer, run it empty for 24 hours with the door closed, then open and ventilate to allow odors to dissipate.
- Deep clean interior: Wipe all internal surfaces with a solution of baking soda and warm water. Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly.
- Clean door gasket folds: Use a soft brush to clean between gasket folds where mold can grow.
- Check drain and pan: Clean the defrost drain and external drain pan where stagnant water can cause odors.
- Use odor absorbers: Place an open box of baking soda or a commercial odor absorber inside for several days.
Warning: Do not use strong solvents or chlorine bleach inside the freezer; fumes can contaminate food and damage plastics.
