Freezer beeping and displaying E1; temperature fluctuates or does not reach set point
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Caple freezer from the mains before removing any panels. Use insulated tools and avoid working on live circuits.
Steps to check and address E1:
- 1. Power reset: Disconnect power for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect. If E1 clears temporarily and returns, continue with checks.
- 2. Locate the cabinet NTC sensor: On most Caple upright and under-counter freezers, the cabinet sensor is clipped behind the inner liner (often near the top or mid‑section) or in a small plastic housing on the rear wall inside the freezer.
- 3. Inspect wiring and connector: Remove the internal cover or rear service panel as needed. Check the sensor wiring harness from the sensor to the main control PCB for cuts, pinches, or rodent damage. Reseat the connector on the PCB.
- 4. Test the sensor: With the freezer unplugged, disconnect the NTC and measure resistance with a multimeter. At around 25°C, most Caple NTCs read roughly 5–10 kΩ (check service sheet if available). An open circuit (OL) or 0 Ω indicates a failed sensor.
- 5. Replace the NTC sensor if faulty: Unclip or unscrew the old sensor, route the new sensor along the same path, and secure it away from moving parts or sharp edges. Reconnect to the PCB.
- 6. Check the control PCB: If the sensor tests good and wiring is intact but E1 persists, the sensor input circuit on the main control PCB may be defective. Inspect for burnt components or corrosion. Replacement of the PCB is usually required and may be best done by a qualified technician.
When to call a professional: If you are not comfortable testing resistance or accessing the control PCB, or if replacing the sensor does not clear E1, contact a Caple‑authorised service technician.
