Door Switch / Door Sensor Fault
E8 error; alarm may sound and internal light may not work correctly

Possible Causes
Defective magnetic reed door switch, Misaligned door magnet, Broken door switch wiring, Faulty input on main control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before testing or replacing the door switch.
Steps to fix E8:
- 1. Check door closure: Ensure the door closes fully and the gasket is not obstructing the switch area. A partially open door can mimic a switch fault.
- 2. Locate the door switch: On many Caple freezers, the switch is in the cabinet frame near the top or side, or integrated as a magnetic sensor behind the liner.
- 3. Test the switch: For a mechanical plunger switch, press it by hand and listen for a click; test continuity with a multimeter (closed when pressed). For a magnetic reed switch, place a magnet near the sensor and test continuity.
- 4. Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the switch to the control PCB for damage, especially near hinge areas where wires may flex.
- 5. Replace faulty switch: Pop out or unscrew the old switch, connect the new one, and secure it in place. For magnetic systems, ensure the door magnet aligns correctly with the sensor.
- 6. Verify operation: Restore power and confirm that the interior light and door alarm behave normally and that E8 clears.
Tip: A faulty door switch can also prevent the evaporator fan from running on some models, affecting cooling.
