Noisy Compressor or Vibrating Condenser
Freezer making loud buzzing or humming noise from the rear
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Compressor mounting rubbers worn or displaced, Condenser tubing touching cabinet or back panel, Loose rear service panel vibrating, Internal compressor wear causing loud operation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before adjusting components at the rear.
Steps to reduce noise:
- 1. Check installation: Ensure the freezer is not touching walls or cabinets that can resonate.
- 2. Inspect rear panel: Tighten any loose screws on the rear service panel.
- 3. Check condenser and pipes: Look for copper tubes touching each other or the cabinet. Gently bend them apart slightly to prevent contact, taking care not to kink lines.
- 4. Inspect compressor mounts: Verify that rubber grommets under the compressor are intact and that mounting bolts are snug but not overtightened.
- 5. Evaluate compressor noise: If the compressor itself is excessively loud or knocking, this may indicate internal wear. Only a refrigeration technician can replace the compressor.
Note: Some humming is normal, but sudden changes in noise level warrant investigation.
