Localised Defrost Drain Freezing
Ice building up under the bottom drawer only
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Partially blocked defrost drain, Insufficient insulation around drain tube, Door seal leak causing excess frost near bottom, Cabinet not level
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug before defrosting and clearing the drain.
Steps to fix bottom ice build‑up:
- 1. Remove bottom drawer: Expose the floor of the freezer compartment.
- 2. Defrost ice: Allow ice to melt naturally or use a hairdryer on low at a safe distance. Mop up water.
- 3. Clear drain hole: Locate the drain at the back and clear with a soft probe. Flush with warm water until it flows freely.
- 4. Check levelling: Ensure the freezer tilts slightly backwards so water flows to the drain, not forward.
- 5. Inspect gasket: Fix any seal issues that may be causing excess frost.
Note: Repeat blockages may indicate a design issue; periodic cleaning may be required.
