Possible Causes

Normal automatic defrost cycle, Control board indicating active defrost heater operation

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Note: On many Costway digital freezers, dF/DF simply indicates that the unit is in an automatic defrost cycle and is not an error.

What to do:

  • Observe behavior: During dF, the compressor and interior fan may stop while the defrost heater operates. This can last 15–30 minutes.
  • Check temperature: The interior temperature may rise slightly but should return to normal once the cycle completes.
  • Do not unplug: Allow the defrost cycle to complete. Interrupting it repeatedly can lead to frost buildup.
  • Investigate only if: dF remains on the display continuously for several hours, or the freezer warms excessively. In that case, inspect the defrost sensor and heater as described in E2/E4 entries.

Safety: No action is required for normal dF indication. Only open panels with the unit unplugged if you suspect a defrost malfunction.
