Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Loose fan motor connector on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Unplug the freezer before accessing the interior fan. Fan blades and metal edges can be sharp; wear gloves.

Steps to address E7:

  • Listen for the fan: With the door closed and unit powered (before unplugging), listen for the evaporator fan running. If silent or intermittent, proceed.
  • Defrost and access fan: Unplug the freezer. Remove baskets and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
  • Check for ice buildup: Look for ice blocking the fan blades or shroud. Melt ice with warm (not boiling) water and towels; do not chip with sharp tools.
  • Inspect the fan: Spin the fan blades by hand. They should rotate freely without grinding or wobbling. Check for broken blades.
  • Check wiring: Ensure the fan motor connector is firmly plugged into its harness. Follow the wires to the control board area for any damage.
  • Test the fan motor: If you have a multimeter, measure resistance across the fan motor terminals (should show some resistance, not OL). Alternatively, a technician can test with a known-good 12/24 V DC or AC supply depending on model.
  • Replace the fan motor if faulty: Install a compatible Costway evaporator fan motor. Transfer the fan blade to the new motor if separate, and secure it in the shroud.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the interior panel, restore power, and confirm the fan runs and E7 clears.

Note: If the fan is good but not receiving power, the main control board may have a failed fan driver circuit.
